DIY Candy Tree: *Sweet* Gift Idea
You’re looking for a unique gift idea or you just want to sweeten someones day? Why not make a candy tree? It’s a real eye-catcher and fairly simple to make.
So let’s build one together.
Materials
You will need:
- a styrofoam ball to serve as the crown of the tree
- wooden stick for the tree trunk (I used a cooking spoon, so they can reuse it after finishing the candy)
- a plant pot or vase to plant your tree in
- another styrofoam ball or egg that fits the pot to give to tree stability
- glue gun to stick the candy to the ball (I used a medium heat one to make sure the glue doesn’t melt the styrofoam)
Now all you need is lots of candy of your choosing to decorate the tree. Just make sure they’re individually wrapped so you can glue them to the styrofoam
Instructions
Poke a hole in the styrofoam ball that’s going to serve as the tree and fit it on the stick. You could also do that step after sticking the candy on but I just find it easier this way around and you won’t forget to leave space for the trunk.
Then place the second styrofoam ball/egg in the pot and cut a whole for the “tree trunk”. To fit the cooking spoon I chose a styrofoam egg that was hollow and came as two parts. If you’re not using a cooking spoon a normal styrofoam ball will do.
Make sure that everything is stable.
After that you can take the crown back off and start glueing the candy to the ball. This might take a little bit because you have to hold the candy in place until the glue is cold enough to make sure the candy won’t fall right back off.
Let the glue dry and place the crown back on the stem. We’re almost done.
Now we just need to cover the styrofoam in the vase. You can fill that space with some more candy, paint it green to resemble grass or just cover it with some decorative stones.
I added a heart because mine was supposed to serve as a may tree (a tradition where I live) and since they usually come with hearts I put my own twist on it.
The fun part
Now your candy tree is ready for the best part, the gifting!
